  • 現存的三架Bartolomeo Cristofori製作的琴

這架鋼琴是從巴托羅密歐•克裡斯多佛利的作坊中保存下來的三架鋼琴之一，也是現存最古老的鋼琴。巴托羅密歐•克裡斯多佛利大約於1700年在佛羅倫斯的美第奇宮中發明了鋼琴。大都會博物館的這架鋼琴造於1720年，至今仍可彈奏。它的複雜機制是現代鋼琴的原型，但其鍵盤更短，也沒有踏板提供音色對比。不過這架琴的音域包括三個獨特音區：溫暖深沉的低音；更加鮮明的中八度；亮麗清脆的高音。克裡斯多佛利的發明主要用作伴奏，被人稱為“剛柔相濟的撥弦鍵琴”，指其新穎的靈活性。
